Virgin Voyages Is Not a Cruise. It's a Whole Different Category—And Here's Why That Matters

If someone told you five years ago that you'd be genuinely excited about a cruise, you might have laughed. Buffet lines. Formal dinner nights. Twelve-year-olds running through the corridor at 7am. A bingo caller with a microphone.
That's not Virgin Voyages.
Virgin Voyages is what happens when a brand famous for disrupting airlines, gyms, and banking turns its attention to the cruise industry and decides to throw out every assumption about what a cruise ship is supposed to be. The result is something that cruise veterans find refreshing and cruise skeptics find genuinely surprising—an adults-only, all-inclusive experience that has more in common with a boutique hotel at sea than anything you've sailed on before.
We've booked hundreds of Virgin Voyages sailings at Limin Professionals. We were recognized as one of Virgin Voyages' Top 100 First Mate agencies in all of North America in 2024—in our very first year. So when we tell you this cruise line is worth your attention, we're not reading from a brochure. We're speaking from experience.
Here's everything you need to know.
It Is Actually, Completely, 100% Adults-Only
Not "adults preferred." Not "adults-only pool deck." Not "we have a quiet zone." The entire ship—every restaurant, every bar, every pool, every cabin, every entertainment venue—is exclusively for guests 18 and older. Always.
Virgin Voyages currently operates four ships: Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and Brilliant Lady. Every one of them sails with the same policy. There is no workaround, no exception for "mature teens," no summer-camp situation happening two decks below you. Children are simply not permitted.
For the luxury traveler who has ever had a hard-earned vacation interrupted by someone else's parenting decisions, this alone is worth the price of admission.
The All-Inclusive Model Is Actually All-Inclusive
Most cruise lines use "all-inclusive" loosely. What they mean is: your cabin and one buffet meal are included, and everything else is à la carte, charged to a room key you'll try to forget exists until the final-night invoice appears under your door.
Virgin Voyages is different. Every fare includes:
🍽️ Dining at 20+ restaurants and eateries—with no cover charges, no specialty dining surcharges, and no buffet in sight
🥤 Non-alcoholic beverages throughout the ship
🏋🏽♂️ Group fitness classes
💻 Wi-Fi (basic)
💵 Gratuities
💃🏾 Onboard entertainment, which ranges from immersive theater to cabaret shows to live music
What isn't included—premium cocktails, spa treatments, Shore Things (Virgin's name for excursions), and upgraded internet—is genuinely optional. You will not feel nickel-and-dimed. The philosophy is: what you see in your fare is what you pay.
For couples, the math gets even better. Virgin Voyages frequently runs an "80% off second sailor" promotion, which dramatically reduces the per-person cost on a shared cabin. This is the deal we get asked about most.
When it's running, it's one of the best values in luxury travel.

The Food Is Legitimately Good
This one surprises people.
The default assumption about cruise ship food is industrial volume—competent, forgettable, and engineered to feed 2,500 people simultaneously. Virgin Voyages operates on a different premise. Their culinary program was built with input from Michelin-level chefs, and the ships are designed so that every dining option is a proper restaurant experience.
There's no central dining room. Instead, there are 20+ distinct venues—Test Kitchen (interactive chef-driven dinners), Razzle Dazzle (plant-forward, surprisingly sophisticated), Pink Agave (elevated Mexican), The Wake (upscale American with aft ocean views), Korean BBQ, a proper sushi bar, and more. None of these require a reservation surcharge. All of them are included in your fare.
This is a meaningful differentiator. On most premium cruise lines, the best dining experiences cost extra. On Virgin Voyages, the entire menu is available to you.

The Vibe Is Different—Intentionally
Virgin Voyages made a deliberate decision to design for a specific traveler. The average passenger age skews mid-30s to mid-50s. The design language is boutique hotel—moody lighting, elevated interiors, a visual identity that feels more like a W Hotel than a Royal Caribbean ship. There's no casino culture dominating the public spaces. There are no formal dress-code nights. There's no pressure to be anywhere at any particular time.
What there is: a Richard's Rooftop (a members-club-style experience at the top of the ship), the Redemption Spa (one of the best wellness programs at sea), outdoor social spaces that actually feel like outdoor social spaces, and an entertainment program that leans toward immersive and late-night rather than family-hour spectacle.
If you've ever walked through the atrium of a major cruise ship and felt like you'd accidentally wandered into a Las Vegas casino, you'll notice the difference immediately.

Where Can You Go?
More places than most people realize. Virgin Voyages has expanded significantly and now sails to:
The Caribbean—the fleet's home base, with departures from Miami and San Juan year-round. Eastern, Western, and Southern Caribbean routes, with stops at private island experiences, beach clubs, and cultural ports across the islands.
Europe—Mediterranean sailings from Barcelona, Athens, and Portsmouth covering the Amalfi Coast, Greek Isles, Croatian Adriatic, French Riviera, and beyond. European season typically runs spring through fall.
North America—sailings from New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and San Juan covering Bermuda, New England, the Pacific Coast, and more.
Alaska—one of the fleet's newer offerings and genuinely breathtaking. Glacier views, dramatic fjords, and wildlife-rich coastlines, sailed with the same adults-only, all-inclusive approach.
Transatlantic—crossings between the Americas and Europe. These are long, unhurried sailings that have become some of the most coveted in the fleet. They sell out. Book early.

Is It Right for a Group?
Yes—and this is where we come in.
Groups (typically eight or more cabins) unlock a separate tier of benefits on Virgin Voyages that individual bookers don't have access to: onboard credits, dedicated group space, priority booking windows, and the ability to coordinate private events, group dining, and custom experiences onboard.
The coordination involved in getting 10, 20, or 40 people onto the same ship with staggered deposits, shared cabin preferences, and a group itinerary is exactly what we do. We've done it hundreds of times. We handle all of it—communication, deposits, change requests, shore excursion coordination, and the inevitable "can we add two more people" call at month three.
Girls trips. Bachelorette sailings. Anniversary groups. Corporate incentive travel. Fraternity and sorority reunions. Family reunion groups (because yes, a ship where no one's kids are allowed is still a viable reunion option when your family is all adults). We've planned all of it on Virgin Voyages, and we'd plan yours.
What Does Booking Through Limin Professionals Actually Get You?
The most common question we get: why use a travel agent when I can just book directly?
The answer is simple: our service costs you nothing extra. Virgin Voyages compensates us directly from their own margin. Your fare is identical whether you book through us or through virginvoyages.com. The difference is that when you book through us, you have a team behind you.
We know the promotions before they're widely publicized. We know which cabin categories to request for specific itineraries. We know the shore excursions worth booking and the ones you can skip. We've handled mid-sailing emergencies, itinerary changes, and the kind of logistical situations that turn a trip into a stressful memory—so our clients don't have to.
And for groups specifically: coordinating a multi-cabin booking is a job. We do that job. You show up.
